DSI Mining: Global leadership for products and systems for the Mining industry

Today, DSI’s Mining division, which began in 2001 with a focus on Australia, is active around the world. The division specializes in the development, production and supply of high quality Mining Systems and is represented in all of the important Mining regions worldwide.

Mining Asia-Pacific

All activities in the Asia/Pacific region are coordinated from Australia, where DSI has been the market leader for many years. DSI Australia’s headquarters and its main production facility are in Newcastle, NSW. Another manufacturing facility is located in Perth to service the Western Australian market.

DYWIDAG-Systems International Pty. Ltd. (DSI) is Australia’s largest manufacturer & supplier of specialized strata reinforcement & support products to the underground coal & metalliferous mining sectors. DSI is also a major exporter of these products to the Asia /Pacific Region.

The product range includes rock bolts, rock bolt accessories, W straps, rotary drill bits, rods and resin anchors as well as an extensive range of related accessories.

In addition, the company offers a large variety of mesh, always adapting its products to suit customers’ individual needs. DSI’s mesh products are used as recovery mat systems for recovering longwall equipment in preparation for relocation.

Another development by DSI Australia is the DCP Bolt, an expansion shell bolt with polyethylene sheathing that provides advanced corrosion protection for roof support in mines and tunnels. The bar’s unique deformation pattern improves its load transfer properties.

DSI Mining America

America is another very important market for DSI’s mining business. Here, mining activities are coordinated from DSI’s headquarters in Salt Lake City.

DSI’s American affiliates continuously develop innovative products such as the ME- type San Juan cable truss coupler, a new bar-cable truss system especially developed in response to customer requirements. Thanks to the newly developed ME truss coupler, additional wedge barrels are no longer required.

The key advantages of the system are its easy and safe installation due to the fact that fewer pieces are required to install the truss.

By acquiring regional providers, DSI has now established itself as the market leader in Canada, delivering reliable high quality systems to its customers.

DSI’s growth strategy continues to be successful: new strategically important acquisitions have been made in Mexico and Chile in order to further expand our position in the Latin American market.

The acquisition of FASLOC at the end of 2006 was an important step towards further expansion. With FASLOC, the market leader for the production of resin cartridges, we have acquired an important partner for supplying its clients in the mining industry.

Thus, DSI will be able to further expand the strengths it is known for around the world: its high degree of client orientation and its excellent service.

DSI Tunneling: Innovative rock mass stabilizing solutions

DSI’s new tunneling division, headquartered at the DSI offices in Austria, co-ordinates all tunneling activities of the DSI Group worldwide. DSI has significantly widened its tunneling activities by the acquisition of:

    • DSI Pasching, formerly ALWAG, Austria
    • DSI Underground Systems Inc., formerly American Commercial Inc. (ACI), USA
    • Commercial Structures & Systems Ltd. (CSS), U.K.
    • DSI-Chile

    As a single-source provider of patented products and systems, DSI Pasching near Linz, Austria, has held a strong position in the European market for many years. DSI Pasching´s most important systems and products include ALWAG AT casing systems, lattice girders and anchorage drilling systems that are continuously being improved by intense R&D activities.

    DSI Pasching attaches great importance to permanently improving its performance through strong R&D activities in order to continuously be one step ahead of its competitors. The company’s willingness to invest in new technical developments is demonstrated by a multitude of patented ALWAG systems such as the technically sophisticated AT-LSC-element.

    AT - LSC-Elements are used as supports in converging rock mass conditions. They control stress distribution and yielding ability, thus avoiding an overstraining of the tunnel lining.
    DSI’s AT-LSC-Elements dispose of project-specifically adjusted geometry and are tunable to rock mass conditions by means of computer-aided simulation.

    ACI is one of the leading providers of tunneling products and systems in the North and Central American markets. ACI´s main competitive advantages lie in its customer-specific system solutions for tunneling and its manufacturing capability to produce steel arches, liner plates and a wide range of other market leading products and equipment.

    Lattice girders are an important part of ACI’s product range in tunneling. ACI’s lattice girders are characterized by their high degree of stability and deformability and can be arranged both on the inner and on the outer side relative to the curvature fitting the specific excavation geometry.

    Liner plates, which are characterized by their light weight, also form part of ACI’s high quality product range. Thanks to their light weight and special design, they save time and money during the installation process. The standard design can be adapted to all tunnel shapes - no matter whether in dry or wet ground.

    For over 75 years, ACI has produced cold rolled steel ribs which are continually adapted to changing clients’ needs. Furthermore, ACI is one of the leading suppliers of machine technology. In North America, ACI is a distributor for Aliva, a manufacturer of shotcrete systems, and for Häny mixers and pumps, thus completing its product range with additional high quality products.

    ACI is also Interoc-Bohrsysteme’s exclusive distributor in the USA for the sale and rental of Interoc drilling machines. Additionally, as partner of the German company Mühlhäuser, ACI offers its clients a complete product range of containers and transporters for tunneling.
